Unbelievable Fact : World's 7th Largest Diamond was used as a paperweight!!!

The Jacob Diamond is a large diamond, ranked seventh in the world, known earlier as the Imperial or Great White Diamond. It is believed to be the Victoria Diamond, owned by the Nizam of Hyderabad and currently owned by the Government of India.

It is cut in a rectangular cushion-cut, with 58 facets, and measures 39.5 mm long, 29.25 mm wide and 22.5 mm deep. The diamond weighs 184.5 carats (36.90 g).

Unlike the famous Koh-i-Noor, the Jacob diamond can be branded as a non-violent diamond, one which has changed hands only twice in the history of its existence. However, it only came into the possession of India after its amalgamation of the Hyderabad state into the Republic of India.

World's Oldest Cosmetic Cream Found In London!

The world’s oldest cosmetic face cream has been found by archaeologists by excavating a Roman Temple on the banks of river Thames and what leaves one perplexed is that the cream still has the finger marks of its last user, 2000 years back!!  The cream is contained in a 5cm by 6cm tightly sealed cylindrical tin can, which seemingly was deliberately hidden and was found at the bottom of a sealed ditch in Southwark, about 2 (two) miles south of central London.

The site lies on the point where three roads namely Walting St from Dover, Saint St from Chichester and bridgehead road over Thames meet. This ancient site bears the foundations of two Roman-Celtic temples, a guest house, an outdoor area suitable for mass worship, plinths for statues and a stone pillar.

This complex has been a store of discoveries. Last year, it revealed a stone tablet with the earliest known inscription bearing the Roman name of London. Known to be the first religious complex in London, it unfolds the rare evidence of organized religion in London 2000 years back.

Since the excavation is now at the stage of completion, this site will be used as a housing complex.
Nansi Rosenberg, a senior archaeological consultant of the project feels lucky to have a marshy site in London where the contents of this sealed box must have been retained and the metal preserved from corroding. Though, they are still not sure whether the cream was medicinal, cosmetic or entirely ritualistic. She even adds that the discoveries have just begun and there are more to be made as they piece together the jigsaw puzzle they have excavated.

Talking about the latest discovery, Opened at the Museum of London, this tin can revealed a pungent smelling white-cream.  According to Liz Barham, whoever used this ointment last has applied it to something with their fingers and has used the lid as a dish to take the ointment out. The cream is currently undergoing scientific analysis and guesses are that it must have been used as a beauty treatment or even face paint in temple ritual.

Federico Nappo, an expert on ancient Roman cosmetics of Pompeii calls it an extraordinary discovery. He assumes that it is likely for the cream to contain animal fats as Romans used to use donkey’s milk for skin treatment. Yet he believes that it should not be tough to find out the cream’s composition.

But how about riding a bicycle which can fit in your pocket and whose paddle is 5 times smaller than your feet? You might be thinking of the kind of cycle that one might witness at the circus with a parrot doing acrobats on, but here it is actually being ridden by a Russian adult in full cycling gear.

check this out

The small cycle is complete in all respects. It possesses two minute wheels, pedals, handlebar etc, but in size it is not larger than a man's shoe. The cyclist is seen getting on and off the cycle with ease and the animated GIF can be witnessed above.

The History of CTRL + ALT + DELETE

So how did the famous keyboard shortcut of Ctrl + Alt + Delete come about? Incredibly, a programmer who worked on one of the first personal computers wrote it in five minutes because it was too much of a hassle to keep rebooting the computer manually.

Watch this video of Bradley recounting the creation of this now-iconic shortcut, and watch as Bill Gates does not take a jab at Microsoft with the best of graces.

The next time you terminate a program, or restart your computer using the CTRL+ALT+DEL shortcut, think of David Bradley; the IBM engineer that invented the command. During a gathering in 2004 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the IBM PC, the veteran engineer revealed that he’d created the shortcut to save time, since his work required him to frequently power down and restart his computer. He says never intended to make the combination public but was prevailed upon by IBM who found it extremely useful.
